At the University of Sheffield we have an exciting opportunity for a number of Y12/Y13 pupils to visit us and take part in a Physics and Astronomy focused day of activities on Wednesday 25 March 2020
. Please can I ask you to share this invite to any pupils who you feel might be interested or benefit from this opportunity.
This experience at the University of Sheffield gives an opportunity for Y12/Y13 students to discover particle physics and see what it’s like to study physics at the University. It offers the unique chance to take a glimpse into the life of a particle physicist and liaise with other school students from around the globe to discuss your results.
In the morning there will be a general introduction on Particle Physics, followed by a discussion on what it’s like to study physics at university. After lunch, you will get your hands on real data from the ATLAS experiment and start a particle hunt to find the Z boson and perhaps even the Higgs. At the end of each day, similar to an international research collaboration, you will join a video conference for discussion and combination of the results. The group in Sheffield will connect with students from Rome (Italy), Zilina (Slovakia) and Trebic/Prague (Czech Republic).
A full programme for the day can be found here. If you would like to find out more and to book your place for this exclusive opportunity please see the following link – Physics taster day
Any interested pupils should book directly themselves as this event is open to pupils from several different schools.
Should you have any questions about this day please feel free to contact the team on 0114 222 9872 or by using our email address – firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to welcoming you on campus
