NEWSLETTER w/c 4th January – University of Bradford

This is our first newsletter of 2021 giving details of the activities and support we have available in early January.  You can go to our digital version of this newsletter HERE.  

Following the announcement of another national lockdown, changes to exams this year and changes to the UCAS application deadline, we are currently working to develop and deliver additional activities (virtually, of course) to support students, parents and yourselves during this period.  Details will be supplied once confirmed – but if you require any advice or support from us in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact your dedicated Outreach & Recruitment Officer or contact us on schoolsandcolleges@bradford.ac.uk.

Academic Webinars: 

Our academic webinars provide a fantastic opportunity to help you think about what you might want to study at university and potentially assist you when writing your personal statement for your UCAS application.  Our Webinars for January 2021, covering a diverse range of topics, will be updated shortly, and can be viewed on our webinars webpage

  • 27 January: Biomaterials and their Applications (16:45-17:45 PM) – Patients worldwide benefit from implants and diagnostic devices. Biomaterial and device applications, versatility and performance represent a University of Bradford success story. This webinar will explore the design and preparation of hydrogels for tissue regeneration, antimicrobial medical devices and devices that detect pathogens in infective diseases.  You can Register HERE.

 Post-16 Activity: 

  • 14 JanuaryPreparing for University interviews (4:30-5:30 PM and 7:30-8:30 PM) – This session is for students who have applied to a course that will require an interview at university. We will cover key tips for how to prepare and present yourself at your interview.

Bradford Café Scientifique Event:  

  • 28 JanuaryLessons through reflection, a nurses perspective on working in COVID 19 (6:30-8:00 PM).  Synopsis:  How does a hospital A&E department adapt to a pandemic? Danni Woods Adult Nurse Lecturer at the University of Bradford and Sister Lucy Lowe will examine how the events leading up to the national lockdown were translated into routine nursing practice in an inner city hospital.  Please note that this is an online event using Zoom, places must be booked here.

  • We have been awarded accreditation for a range of our chemistry courses by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the full press release can be found on the web HERE.   The courses accredited include: BSc Chemistry, MChem Chemistry, MChem Chemistry (Medicinal Chemistry and MChem Chemistry (Industrial Experience).

Resource for Students:

The University of Bradford’s new “Virtual Open Day Anytime” was launched last month.  It will not replace the Virtual Open Day Live events but will act as a pool of information in between Open Days.  Students can access the resource on our Open Days website page HERE.
