University of Huddersfield UCAS update at 4th January 2021

https://www.hud.ac.uk/undergraduate/schools-and-colleges-liaison-service/

Due to the exceptional circumstances this year, it has been agreed that we will give equal consideration to all applications made via UCAS to the University of Huddersfield by 15 February.

What happens if I miss the 15 January UCAS deadline?

We understand that this has been an exceptionally challenging year for schools and colleges and their students and we do not wish to see any applicant disadvantaged by these circumstances. With this in mind, we will give equal consideration to all applications made via UCAS to the University of Huddersfield by midnight on Friday 15 February.

We hope this will give applicants the appropriate time to submit their very best application and personal statement.

After this date, the University of Huddersfield will accept late applications for most courses for the remainder of the 2021 entry cycle, however some courses will become full and we can’t guarantee that they will be given the same level of consideration as applications received by Monday 15 February.

News Associates 2020 round-up!

Latest journalism update from News Associates, the UK’s number one NCTJ journalism school

It’s not been the year any of us expected, but one thing has stayed the same  News Associates’ commitment to award-winning NCTJ journalism training, while keeping our trainees and staff safe.

Keep reading to learn more about us and how to apply for our NCTJ courses.

From a seamless move to fully-remote teaching in lockdown one, to hosting thousands of people on Zoom workshops over the summer, to 100% of our latest undergraduate cohort getting their gold-standard qualification, to working tirelessly to get our trainees back in the office safely for our autumn courses – it’s been a rollercoaster of a year. And the commitment of our trainees and staff never waivered.

Record-breaking undergraduate success

100% of our first ever undergraduate class achieved a gold-standard NCTJ Diploma in Multimedia Journalism – a record-breaking achievement.

This is the first time since the NCTJ started publishing results that an entire undergraduate cohort has achieved the industry-standard qualification.

In the years on record 2013-2019 the gold-standard NCTJ pass rate for the number one-ranked accredited undergraduate courses were 50%, 48.78%, 55.56%, 59.46%, 38.46%, 50% and 38.46%

On top of that, an incredible 71% also achieved a first in their journalism degree, with 29% achieving a 2.1.

We couldn’t be more proud of them!

It's great to start my career as a journalist.” Text is shown in white and blue fonts, in white and orange text boxes against a blue background. The Sutton Trust – Free summer schools for your students

Applications for Sutton Trust Summer Schools are opening soon!

I am writing from the Sutton Trust, a charity that champions social mobility. Applications for our free university and apprenticeship summer schools are opening on January 11th, 2021. Join state school teachers around the UK in sharing these opportunities with high achieving students in your school.

Our flagship UK Summer Schools give students an insight into university through spending a week with one of 13 leading UK universities studying one of over 40 different subjects and meeting like-minded students from across the UK.

The new Apprenticeship Summer School will allow students to explore degree-level apprenticeships as an alternative to university by attending interactive skills sessions and networking with top employers like Accenture, PwC and Coca-Cola EP.

Your students will be supported—either in-person or online

While the upcoming months seem uncertain, we are confident that we can continue to deliver high-quality support, while prioritising the safety of our students and staff. Last summer, we responded quickly and launched our new digital platform, Sutton Trust Online. This allowed us to not only deliver our programmes virtually but provide ongoing support and resources to students at a time they need it most.

Last summer, over 6,000 young people benefitted from our summer schools and digital platform, and we want your students to be next. Summer school students gain confidence and the skills to navigate the Higher Education system and make informed choices about their future. You can see how students in your region have benefitted from our programmes on our Impact Hub.

“Despite being online, the other students and I were able to work extremely well together—taking part in games, quizzes and much more. I completed the programme feeling that I had been extremely productive.”

– Gracie, Sutton-in-Ashfield, The University of Nottingham UK Summer School 2020

Who can apply?

Our Summer Schools are open to students who:

  • are currently studying in Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland)
  • have always attended a state-funded school or college like yours

We are looking for high achieving (at least 5 A/6s at GCSE or 5 Bs at National 5) students from less-advantaged backgrounds. Students are more likely to gain a place if they meet additional social mobility criteria. Please see our teacher guide for more information.

How you can help

We will be in touch with more details about the Summer Schools when applications open on January 11th. Until then, you can:

Applications for our free US programme are open now!

Our fully-funded US programme is a once in a lifetime opportunity for your students to experience what it’s like to be an international student in the US and to help them see if it could be the right fit for them. Over 400 students have already secured places across 74 US universities so if you work with students who might be interested in the opportunity, please direct them to the website. Applications will close on January 17th 2021.
