Leeds Trinity University Inspire Newsletter September 2020

Welcome back to what we at Leeds Trinity University appreciate is a very testing time for school and college colleagues who we know are working tirelessly to ensure all your students are on track in their studies. Of course, for Year 12 and 13 we also appreciate this must be balanced with ensuring students have the right information to make informed decisions about their future and next steps. To support you with this, we’ve thought about creative ways we can help you and your students to access information about higher education, the application process and Leeds Trinity University.

We’ve made Inspire virtual.

All our Inspire presentations are now available as narrated PowerPoints for you to use during pastoral time, share at your events and share with your students. Please request these by emailing SCLhello@leedstrinity.ac.uk

  • How to Write an Excellent Personal Statement

  • Student Finance for 2021 entry

  • Interview Skills

  • How to Research Universities and Plan for an Open Day

  • Why uni?

  • How to use online resources to research your university and course choices (a presentation for students to self-navigate).

Unibuddy

We are also excited to share with you a new feature on our website called Unibuddy. It’s a function that allows your students to chat securely with Leeds Trinity University Student Ambassadors to find out more about university life. We would also love to create a Unibuddy Live event to complement your workshops and/or tutorials and one can be run directly after showing our Inspire Presentations. You can request bespoke Unibuddy Live sessions by emailing us at SCLhello@leedstrinity.ac.uk or students can sign on to our pre-planned events individually by clicking on the below hyperlinks and adding some details through the Sign Up button:

Subject Focus Days

Many of you have been able to visit us on campus for our Subject Focus Days and we are keen that students do not miss out on this experience in 2020. Therefore, we are developing a virtual Subject Focus Day site which we will be launching in the Autumn term and hope that you will be able to encourage students to access this for their subject/subjects of interest and take part in each subject’s Subject Focus Day competition in order for us to continue to support their decision-making process. To enquire further about these please email SCLhello@leedstrinity.ac.uk and your email will be referred to the relevant team members.

Virtual Open Days

We will shortly be sending posters out to your school or college to promote our Virtual Open Days. Where students will get to explore our green campus, sports facilities, industry-standard studios, on-campus accommodation and social spaces from the safety of their own home with our virtual experience. In addition, they can find out more about the courses their interested in as well as talk to current students about life on campus. Journalism and Media Week

This year’s Journalism and Media Week will also be hosted virtually on Microsoft Teams and will take place between Monday 2 – Thursday 5 November. The flagship event will welcome a range of guest speakers including: Jane Garvey from BBC Woman’s Hour, Steph McGovern from Channel 4’s The Steph Show, BBC News LGBT correspondent Ben Hunte, actor and director Reese Dinsdale, plus many more. There will also be an opportunity to watch Q&A panels with Leeds Trinity University Journalism and Media alumni who discuss their careers since graduating. With the event being delivered remotely, you could broadcast a talk in your classroom or even request session recordings to show later. In previous years, schools and colleges found these resources a particularly useful way of contextualising the subject and showcasing Journalism and Media careers in the local and national labour market.  For more information about the timetable for the week and how you can get involved, please email SCLhello@leedstrinity.ac.uk

Leeds Conservatoire – Online Resources and Live Events

Resources to Help You!

Leeds Conservatoire

It’s our aim to make conservatoire education accessible to all – we’re doing that by putting on more online events and providing you with a whole host of FREE teaching resources!

Resources to Help You!

We don’t want you or your students to miss out on experiencing what Leeds Conservatoire has to offer, so whilst we can’t welcome you onto campus or come out to visit you in school just yet, we have our Online Hub which has plenty of resources to get you started.

Currently on the Online Hub there are Rock and Pop Aural Skill sessions, Jazz workshops and Songwriting resources from our wonderful tutors, as well as information about careers in the Performing Arts and Music industries and useful tips from some of our current students.

We aren’t stopping there though! We have so much more on the way and we will regularly update the Online Hub with new resources. Coming up in the next few weeks you’ll find some recorded Q&A sessions from our online Summer Academy, featuring some incredible industry professionals! If you haven’t already, you can sign up for access by completing this form.

This Hub is curated for you, so if there is something you think we should add, let us know by dropping an email to schools@lcm.ac.uk
