Northern Broadsides Theatre Company – Young Writers’ Forge – an opportunity for young people in the North

A picture containing a group of young people outside at The Piece Hall, Halifax, with defiant expressions and their hands raised.

I am writing with exciting news of a new project at Northern Broadsides – we’d love your help in spreading the word.

Yesterday we announced a free playwriting group for people aged 16-25 in the North of England who want to try writing a short play. No previous experience is required. Starting with the fundamentals of playwriting, the group will meet fortnightly with our Resident Assistant Director, Hallam Breen, in a series of workshops, script-readings and one-on-one surgeries on Zoom, to develop their own short plays.

The workshops will culminate in a scratch performance of these plays, read/performed by professional actors.

The deadline for applications is 10pm, Sunday 7th March 2021. If you know anyone who might be interested in this opportunity then do point them in the direction of our webpage: https://www.northern-broadsides.co.uk/opportunities/

Great opportunity for young people @NBroadsides!

Check out the Young Writers’ Forge, a playwriting group for 16-25 year olds in the North.

Meeting fortnightly on Zoom, you’ll develop a short play, which will be performed by professional actors!

STEM Ambassadors offering mentoring for young people aged 16-18 – deadline 1st March

10 weeks mentoring for young people aged 16-18

The STEM Ambassador Programme, in partnership with Brightside charity, is launching a national online mentoring scheme to support young people who are interested in STEM.

Available from end of February to May 2021, the scheme pairs each young person with a STEM Ambassador volunteer who is ready to support them with exploring STEM career options, helping them to feel more confident about their future. The mentoring will take place flexibly, through a moderated messaging system and all STEM Ambassadors are DBS or PVG checked as standard.

Young people will receive:

  • 1:1 support and inspiration from a STEM Ambassador
  • Support and resources to help them make informed decisions
  • Training on how to use Brightside’s secure and moderated messaging system

Watch the video below to hear more from young people who have used Brightside’s mentoring platform:

Young people can register for the mentoring programme here, the deadline to register your interest is Monday 1 March.

Engineering On-line Job Fair 18th and 19th of February update

Next week we’re giving young people the opportunity to learn more about our engineering apprenticeships with two virtual job fairs.

12 February 2021

To coincide with applications opening for this year’s apprenticeship scheme, next week we’ll be hosting two virtual Engineering Apprentice Job Fairs to encourage young people to consider a career in rail.

The virtual job fairs will take place on Thursday 18 February and Friday 19 February, 12.30-13.30.

If you know someone that is thinking about applying for one of our engineering apprenticeships, this is a brilliant opportunity for them to ask questions to the people that already work here and who have followed the same apprenticeship programme.

Attendees will be able to find out more about what our scheme has to offer and will be joined by a few of our Year 3 apprentices for a live Q&A, to hear what it is really like working as an apprentice for one of UKs largest Rail Operators.

Register here to attend one of our virtual job fairs.

Registration will close at midnight on Wednesday 17 February.

Anyone who is interested can register for the virtual job fairs. When you land on the webpage, you’ll find further information about the fairs and the engineering apprentice role. To register simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Apply’. A member of the team will then email you with the joining instructions.
