The Sutton Trust – Help your students apply to university in the USA

Applications for the Sutton Trust US Programme are open!

The Sutton Trust US Programme supports students from state schools across the UK to explore and access leading US universities. In the past nine years, in partnership with the experts at the Fulbright Commission, we have helped more than 400 British students get places and funding at top US universities.

This free programme includes two virtual residentials before a week in the US staying on a leading US university campus and visiting a variety of other American universities. We will continue to support students throughout Year 13 for both US and UK university applications via our brand-new platform, Sutton Trust Online!

Please note that the health and safety of our young people and our staff takes top priority. This may mean we need to adjust our plans, and deliver US weeks in a virtual format this year. We will provide further details to accepted students.

This programme is completely free for students. All costs are covered by the programme – including travel, food, accommodation, admissions test preparation and more.

For interested applicants, parents, and teachers we are holding an informational webinar on Wednesday, 19 November at 4:00pm

Who are we looking for?

To be eligible to apply, your students must:

  • Currently be in Year 12 in England and Wales, S5 in Scotland or Year 13 in Northern Ireland
  • Attend, and have always attended, a state-funded school or college
  • Not hold US citizenship
  • Be from a low or middle income family (generally, this will mean a household earning £45,000 or less)

Applicants should be high-achieving and are more likely to gain a place if they meet additional social mobility criteria. Please visit our website for how to apply, and full eligibility criteria

How to support your students’ application

Share this opportunity with your students who meet the above criteria. We strongly advise students begin their application early as the application form requires some thinking! They must also nominate someone at their school to fill out a reference alongside their application.

Key dates

  • Application deadline – 17 January 2021
  • School reference deadline – 21 January 2021
  • Decisions released – Late February 2021

To find out more about the programme, visit our website.

Best wishes,

The Sutton Trust and Fulbright Commission

The University of Sheffield 2020/21

This year is presenting many challenges when it comes to delivering teaching and HE guidance to your students, and we would like to offer our support as best we can.

During the first half term of the academic year, we have delivered dozens of virtual sessions to schools and colleges, and a few face to face ones too!

As we enter another lockdown, I’m getting in touch to let you know how we can virtually support your students through the university application process.

The response to our virtual sessions has been very positive so far, and by using our Blackboard platform for the majority of sessions, means we can present to multiple groups simultaneously, and even to students working from home if required.

We have a wide range of HE talks, designed to meet Gatsby benchmarks, which we would be delighted to deliver to your students at a time that works for you. The format, content and timings of these talks are very flexible, so please don’t hesitate to request something more bespoke, including subject specific talks.

We have over 16 online taster lectures available to book in a broad range of subject areas. A great way for students to explore potential degrees and an activity which can also double up as personal statement content.

We are running a series of UCAS themed ‘twilight sessions’ every Wednesday 4pm-6pm where students can drop in to ask us their questions and get application tips and advice. Register your interest and sign up for a taster session

We also have a number of online resources, presentations and activities on our Virtual Schools Hub which your students and their supporters can take advantage of.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to request a bespoke talk or a Q&A session for your students.

Lancaster University – Business and Management Masterclasses

Lancaster University

Hello from the Student Recruitment Team

Lancaster University Management School Masterclass Week

Monday 30th November to Thursday 3rd December 2020 – Schedule

here are many different disciplines within the area of business. Some are highly numerical and teach analytical skills, while others place more emphasis on creativity, or intercultural understanding, or innovation.

Even if you already have some knowledge of a subject, perhaps through studying it at school or college, you might want to know more about what it is like to study that subject at university.

We will be hosting a week of short, online sessions, aimed at prospective undergraduates, to help you get a taste of what it is like to study business subjects and answer any questions you may have about applying to university.

University of Salford – Launchpad

This year has seen a change in the way we work and at the University of Salford we have been working on a new way of keeping you up to date with what is going on, both on and off campus. We therefore bring you our ‘new look’ online Launchpad, a hub of information designed to inform and support you as much as we can.

What is included?

As a recruitment team we are always trying to improve our offer to you. As the current situation has meant that we have been unable to visit you  at events, we have updated our online offer with live and pre-recorded presentations. We will have new live sessions for November and December coming soon. You can find these sessions in the Applicant Support Sessions tab in the Highlights section of the Launchpad homepage.

In addition, you can find out more about our successes as a university, hear first-hand accounts about what it is like to study and live on campus and discover new opportunities in our ‘What’s New’ section which includes information on updates to our Business Management programmes and brand-new course flyers including Professional Policing, Intelligence Analysis, Microbiology, Environmental Geography, Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

You’ll also find information on outreach and collaboration opportunities, online events, including our exciting Media Futures 2020 event on 25th November, and activities.
